We started out our week getting ready for our company and for Samantha’s big day.

Grandma Linda and Grandpa Willy (the Renfro Grandparents) arrived Wednesday afternoon. Dad took the day off and was able to be here to greet them. They were so happy to see Samantha and see how much she has grown and changed since Christmas. Grandma Linda kept on commenting on how much more hair Samantha has.
Thursday and Friday we spent quality time with the grandparents. We went out to eat several times but also spent some time at the house just playing around. Friday, Samantha got to go to the mall with dad and the grandparents while mom finished up errands for the birthday party.
Friday evening Grandma B and Papa (the Britain grandparents) arrived. They came straight here before going to their motel.
Sabbath we were able to attend SonRise. This is a re-enactment of the last days of Christ while on earth sponsored by the Collegedale SDA church. It was very chilly and a bit windy but we enjoyed the pageant. Samantha got to see a camel, sheep, donkey, goats, and chickens. It’s easy to think we know the story. However, seeing it “live” can have a real impact and remind us of what the Lord has done for us.
Sunday we celebrated Samantha’s first birthday. Invitations were sent several weeks ago

inviting everyone to her birthday brunch. We were so pleased that Tracy and Cheryl agreed to let us use their house for her party. We were excited to share this special day with family and close friends.
The theme for the brunch was polka dots in pink, white and brown. For the brunch we served everything in circle shapes—pancakes, sliced oranges, veggie sausages and eggs. For dessert we served cupcakes. Dad got lots of compliments on his yummy pancakes that we get to enjoy every week. We sang to Samantha, put her hat on and let her have at her cupcake. Needless to say she wasn’t really interested in her cupcake and just tasted the frosting. After socializing so much, Samantha was tired after her party and came home and took a long nap.

After her nap Samantha opened up her gifts. Boy, did she get gifts! She got lots of clothes, and toys. We got her a little plush rocking horse that she loves. We were thrilled. It’s so cute to see her swing her little leg around on the horse and rock back and forth.
We concluded the weekend by watching a DVD that we put together of Samantha’s first year.
Monday was a sad day as most everyone left and got back to their schedules. We are, however, very excited that Grandma B is able to stay until Friday.
The pony that we gave Samantha makes noises when you push its ears. We told Samantha to push the ear and she covered her own ears. We were so happy that she has learned where her ears are.
Samantha has also been talking quite a bit. We can understand some words, like dad, mom, doggie and duckie. If you ask her what a cow says she says, “moo”. We think its adorable.
She helps us understand what she wants a bit more. When she wants to go outside she either points to the outside, goes to the door or gets her shoes. When she wants something to eat or drink she goes to the kitchen and points. She has become such a big girl in just a year.
Samantha has brought so much joy to our lives. We feel truly blessed that the Lord has he has entrusted her to us.
