Week 30

From here on out it seems that the baby will be mostly growing at a rapid pace and packing on the pounds. By the 30th week the baby is about 3 lbs and is nearly 16 inches long!

The baby may have begun to practice its breathing movements and it even may get a case of the hiccups.

Thursday I have the first of my every-other week appointments. I do need to confirm with my doctor that I can work as long as I feel I’m able to. My work wants to be sure that they have someone to replace me and I have a little bit of time to “train” them but we haven’t worked out an official end date. I’m aiming for March 31st but they might not feel comfortable cutting it that close.

This weekend we got our bumpers for the crib. A gigantic thanks to my mom for putting in many long hours in making it for us. It looks absolutely fabulous and is exactly the way that I thought it would be. It really completes the crib and will look great once we get the room decorated. You can see a picture of it here.

Week 29

This is already week 29! Last week I had my last 4 week doctor’s appointment. For a while I will be going every 2 weeks.

Because of Travis’s schedule he got to come with me and listen to the heartbeat. This was the first time he got to do so since the ultrasound and it put a big smile on his face!

My doctor’s appointment went well with my blood pressure being 108/62 and weight gain still o.k. The baby is doing great and my measurement is right where it should be. The baby’s heartbeat was 140 bpm.

I had my gestational diabetes test this week and unfortunately I learned on Friday that I failed. That means that I have to go in on Tuesday for a 3 hour glucose test to see if I really have gestational diabetes or if it was something I had eaten that morning. For the 3 hour test I have to fast from midnight until my test at 8:30 a.m. and I’ll have to stay there for 3 hours while they test my blood.

Despite my friends saying I don’t look 28+ weeks pregnant, I feel big and pregnant. I know, I know, I have a long ways to go but it’s catching up with me. You can see a picture of what I’m looking like now.

By this week the baby weighs approximately 2 ¾ pounds and the total length is around 16 inches. We learned this week that boys tend to weigh more at birth than girls do and the average weight for a baby is between 7 and 7 ½ lbs.

Week 28

This week I’ve noticed that my belly button is really starting to change, yet another sign that my tummy is continuing to expand! Someday I’ll wake up and it will be pushing out. Like one friend said, “Oh, the joys of being a mommy!”

By this week the little munchkin should weigh nearly 2 ½ pounds with a total length of 15 inches. The eyebrows and eyelashes are now present and the hair (if any) on it’s head is continuing to grow longer and longer. The baby is also putting on my fat and growing plumper and plumper.

The little one now is supposed to have a “regular” schedule. The baby probably sleeps probably 20-30 minutes at a time and as predicted, the baby is most active or noticeably active when I’m lying or sitting down (as referred to in last week’s blog by Travis).

This coming week is another appointment, in fact, it will be the last of the monthly appointments and after this I will be going every other week. This is also my gestational diabetes testing. I am just hoping everything comes out o.k. but I’ll update you on that next week.

Week 27

This blogspot note is coming to you from the father at the request (demand) of the mother. These past few months have been very exciting for me. Once we found out that we were expecting, we thought… now what? Well, for me reality did not hit until I saw the first ultrasound. I have never been in the doctor’s office when someone else was being examined. That was quite an experience. Especially running on about three hours of sleep from the night before. When I first saw the baby moving, the responsibility came to reality. Since then I have come to enjoy the experience. Heidi and I enjoy sitting on the couch watching TV with her belly exposed waiting for movement to be felt and seen. At night I love to put my hand on her belly while we are going to sleep. It seems that is when the baby is most active. I am thinking to myself, great, we are going to have a nocturnal baby. We have just finished putting the crib, changing table, and dresser in the spare bedroom. It is starting to look more like a baby’s room every day. You may ask what my biggest fear is. Well, I fear that my mother’s wish comes true. That we have a child just like me.

At this point the baby can probably start to recognize our voices although it is a muffled sound because of everything the sound has to go through. It’s eyes have also opened up at this point.

The little one weighs about 2 lbs and it’s total length is around 15 inches.

Week 26

This has turned out to be a very busy “baby” week as I look over it. We decided that after Christmas we needed to really focus on getting ready for the baby. This week we registered at Babies-R-Us and Target. We need to finish up with a few things at Babies-R-Us but for the most part we are done. I thought registering would be so much fun and it was but really, what do you need for a baby? It can be kind of overwhelming! I am sure that I forgot to register for something.

We are very fortunate that we have a lot of the “major” things. We really only need a cradle mattress and car seat to bring the baby home. Of course, we need a crib, changing table, etc. but we could get by if we needed to. Hopefully we won’t have to though as we’re probably going to get the crib this week. I am definitely in the “nesting” mode.

I also signed us up for some classes at the hospital. We will go through a child birth education class, a breastfeeding class and a tour of the hospital. All of these will happen in February.

By this week our little one probably weights about 1 ½ to 2 lbs. The fingerprints and footprints are formed and the eyes have developed fully although they probably won’t open until a couple of weeks. The eyebrows and eyelashes have also fully formed along with the hair on it’s body is getting longer and more plentiful.
