The kids and I left on Sunday, June 13th for Wisconsin's annual Campmeeting. I hadn't been back in over 15 years so I wasn't sure what to expect. I found that a few things had changed but many things were the same. I saw many the same people, smelled the same things and did the same things.
The drive was long--about 10 hours of rain, construction and traffic. As usual, the kids were troopers. As we were driving across Wisconsin Samantha declared that she knew we were in Wisconsin because it looked like it.
BeBe was gracious enough to let us stay with her in her cabin. I don't think I could have done whole week without her. She helped out in so many ways. Each evening she would wait to go to her meeting and help me get the kids showered. She watched them in the mornings so I could shower and made most of the meals.
The first few days it rained a lot so we donned umbrellas and raincoats. Luckily the kids' meetings were inside so their meetings were dry.
Samantha loved all of her meetings and didn't miss one. She learned new songs and got to sing up front for three songs one day. Her favorite part was crafts and she was always bringing them back for us to see. She told us that there were guards in her meetings. I asked, "Guards? You mean helpers, right?" No, she said that they told her to be quiet:) Uncle Paul went with her and Dane to a few meetings and he told us she was often telling the other kids what to do.
Blake really enjoyed his meetings also. His morning meeting focused on the forest and the animals that live in it. The afternoon meeting was about farm animals. He had several favorite finger plays he enjoyed, especially one about butterflies. By mid-week he was able to sing most of the songs and even didn't want to leave after the meetings.
We were happy that my brother and his family were there for several days. The kids really enjoyed spending time with the cousins. My Dad was able to come down Thursday and spend time with us.
One night there was sirens and warnings. After debating for a bit I went outside and asked if it applied to everyone or just the people in tents. They told me the rain would last one hour and then there were 90 mph winds coming. I decided to take the kids to a safe place so woke them up, covered them, etc. After being the pavilion for about 5 minutes they declared it safe to go back. Samantha went right back to sleep but Blake took a bit more time. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
Travis spent the week at home working. He missed us a lot and by the end of the week was very anxious for us to come home. He was, however able to go to his parents the weekend we were gone and got to spend time with them.
Despite the long 10+ hour drive the kids want to go back next year and make more memories.
Oh a totally different note, we finally found a house to buy! We fell in love with it right away and are anxious to move in. We can close on August 2 and move in August 5. It's right across the street from our church and about 10 minutes from the school.
