Puerto Rico Vacation

Mom decided that we ought to take a nice vacation every other year instead of spending a lot of money on Christmas gifts.  We brought it up to the kids and they were all for it.  Here is the first of the Bi-annual vacation.

We first had to start out a the previous day before the flight and go snow skiing at Snow Creek.  As you can see in the  background, it is not the Rocky mountain sky slopes.  However, it was great fun with the kids.  I could very easily see the kids being ski junkies if we lived near a big ski resort.

Oh my, what an early morning this was.  The funny thing is that it was easier to get the kids out of bed at 4:00am this morning than it is getting them out of bed for school.  Go figure.  The anticipation of excitement is always a great motivator.

Using Yelp we found this great breakfast restaurant.  It is a small family owned restaurant named "Messy Kitchen Cafe and Bakery."  It was awesome.  The most awesome thing about it was the fact that they did not serve anything pork.  Very healthy.  Normally we like to go to different places during a short vacation visit.  However, since we liked this place so much, we decided to go back again.

Horseback riding was next on the agenda.  Located next to the rain forest along a river, the sights were beautiful.  Fun was had by all.

We took time to trek through the rain forest.  Mostly it was a drive rather than hiking.  We did stop at a few places to sight see.  Six months prior, Puerto Rico was hit by a hurricane and destroyed the canopy of the rain forest.  It will take several years for it to return to its original beauty.  However, it was still very beautiful.  Some of the stops along the route were still closed for repair.

Can't go to a tropical area without drinking coconut milk.  Not our favorite drink, but a nice experience.

Beach time with our mermaid.  Great time as the beach is not very busy this time of year.  It was still beach weather though.

Must.......have.......Coconut!!!!  The boy was made for the beach.

Breakfast time again at our favorite Puerto Rico restaurant.  Marivel was the restaurant owner's name.

Our day in Old San Juan.  It started off a little rough.  As we were driving into Old San Juan, there was no parking available along the streets.  Mom expressed her desire to go to the farmers market that we had just passed.  Dad dropped the family off at the front of the farmers market and then began to look for a parking spot.  Not able to find one, dad was going to call mom and quickly found out that mom left the phone in the car with dad.  Ooopps.  After driving around for around 30 minutes on one-way streets in bumper to bumper traffic moving at a snails pace, dad illegally parked a block away from the farmers market and ran down the street to the farmers market and picked up the family.  We drove to the other side of Old San Juan and parked in a paid public parking area.  Then the exercise of walking all day began.

This store was made for Blake.  They only sell sandals.

If I could have purchased the big sandal, I would have and brought it home and placed it in Blake's bedroom.

Governors Mansion.

Supper at the end of our Old San Juan day.

Party is over and it's time to go home.

Welcome Home.....Not!!!!

I want to go back to Puerto Rico.  Good grief.
