Adjusting Well

WARNING--LONG BLOG!

Last week was pretty much consumed by our move. We made several trips with the truck and van before the “official” moving day which really helped out. I had to come out here to clean a couple of things before we moved in. When we pulled up into the driveway Samantha said “No. No. Bye bye.” I was afraid of what the future might hold for us.

Friday was officially moving day and of course, we had more last minute stuff than we thought and it took a bit longer but we survived thanks to Tracy and Cheryl. They were great troopers and stayed with us until the end. In fact, thanks to Christy, I was able to serve them a delicious meal. We are so thankful for dear friends!

Of course, with the move we have been consumed with moving in. Samantha has been a great trooper and seems to have adjusted better than I could have hoped. I think she’s enjoying the larger space, the fact that the stairs are a challenge for her and that the floors can be used to roll lots of things around in. She thankfully no longer asks to leave once we get here.

Samantha has been and continues to be a very picky, picky eater. She does like cheese though and I have started to make her grill cheese sandwiches. It is so funny to watch her because I’m not sure how much of the bread she gets because after cooking them she will open them up and take out all of the cheese.

With the NFL playoffs on lately dad has had the TV on quite a bit. In fact, when I came home from a baby shower this afternoon, Samantha was on the couch with him watching football and eating goldfish. When Samantha watches football she says, “Run, run.” and “Ball.” I think she might actually enjoy it.

Because of the move and not having Samantha’s room ready right away (she’s technically still sleeping in the baby’s room as we haven’t moved her to her “big girl” bed yet.) she has slept with us quite a bit. In fact, sleeping has been probably the hardest area for her to adjust to at the house. I think the first couple of nights she was afraid when she woke up. Anyways, Trav has designated Sabbath’s to be a special night for Samantha in which she can sleep with us. We know that not everyone agrees with co-sleeping for but us right now it works and we can handle one night a week. We realize that there will be a time when she won’t want to spend time with us and we want to take advantage of this precious time we do have with her. She sleeps great with us except for an occasional kick we might receive.

In preparation for Samantha’s move to her room and the baby she needed a dresser. I decided that we should get it from Ikea so on Thursday we made the trip to Atlanta. We ended up getting a much bigger one than we had planned on because they were out of the one we wanted (Would be getting it the next day. What are the chances??). It will definitely last her a very long time and now can act both as a dresser and toy chest. Dad spent a quite a bit of time putting it together and has even tethered it to her wall so that it can’t be a hazard for her.

We enjoyed our trip to Ikea very much and even enjoyed supper there. Samantha loved playing with the toys. It was a very full day we but had a good time.

We would like to thank everyone who has offered to help us move. We are actually doing quite well and are just working on getting our storage unit items moved over to the house. We are taking this opportunity to go through everything again but we are determined to have everything settled by this weekend.

Lastly, on a baby note. I had a doctor’s appointment last Monday and things seem to be doing well. The baby is actually measuring one week behind (I’ll be 32 weeks on Monday) but the doctor wasn’t concerned. We will know more at my 37 week ultrasound. The baby’s room is coming together and maybe I’ll have pictures of it next week (no promises!!)

We used to sleep every Friday night on our parents' bedroom floor listening to the local Christian radio station. It's a special tradition that I hope to continue. I'm sure Samantha will treasure the memories. :)
